The Phillips will work fine to get the back open, the Pentalobe worked on my battery, but the Torx was worthless. Those four screws require a t6 driver, not a t5, and if you use the t5 you're in danger of stripping them. They are used as pins to seat the drive in the area provided for it before it is secured to the cable. If you're planning to use the set to put in a new hard drive, you need to remove four torx screws from the existing drive.

Watch Out if you're planning to replace a hard disk in your Macbook Great value for the money and get the job done! Much cheaper than many overpriced alternatives in my opinion. I only used it yesterday, but I don't plan on having to clean my laptops for another year or so. The spudgers are not very useful for me, but they may be for some other people who don't have anything thin enough to slide into the back cover to open the laptops up. I didn't know the tips were magnetized, but that was an awesome bonus. No screws were damaged, and the tip help up great.

I bought this to disassemble 1 MacBook Pro 2017 15 inch and 1 MacBook Pro 2017 13 inch. I'm not sure about the negative reviews, but this worked out well for me. Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2020 Great quality, amazing price, get the job done! After that, you can sit and remove it like normal. T5 and P5 are color coded, but make sure you know the screw type on your laptop and use slight force when pressing the tool in and turning the first time. I think some are accidentally using the wrong screw. Doesn't take that much force, but you do slightly press in. When the unit is flat, hover over it and go counter clockwise to open and clockwise to close. Works perfect, had no issues removing the screws again and reusing them. It also has a magnetic tip, which made it easier to lift and remove. Just make sure to re align the screws correctly when adding them back. I'm glad it came with a spudger to remove the backside of the unit. I made sure to go slower and not rush threw it or over tighten.

Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2019īought it to open a Yoga C930 Laptop (4k screen model) since it uses a P5 screw to upgrade the Wifi card to Wifi 6 (aka AX). The P5 and Phillips screwdriver are great - just not the T5. It seems to keep stripping any T5 screws in my Macbook (especially if they're really screwed in tight). EDIT- I do NOT recommend the T5 screwdriver that comes from this set. Also great for getting old thermal paste off of the CPU.
However, the T5 screwdriver stripped my Torx screw (that may speak to either the strength of the screwdriver bit or the weak screw head or my abilities.you choose).Īlso glad to have the nylon spudger - it's great for going around the edge of the bottom panel to help lift the back panel off. I really appreciated the magnetized tips so I didn't lose the screws. The Pentalobe was fantastic in opening up my MacBook Pro (Late-2013, 15" Retina).
